TIPS & IMPORTANT INFO  FOR CLIMBERS

TRAVEL LIGHT

 - As you will require to carry your own bag from the start of the trail to the base camp (unless, you'd like to engage a Porter), we suggest you only bring what's necessary and suggest you keep your bag around 6kg in weight. 

Packing List: 

a. Gloves, Hat, Fleece, Wind breaker & 2 pairs of Socks

b. 1.5L Water Bag/Bottle

c. 1 set of Clean pair of clothes to change

d. Flash light / Head torch and extra pair of batteries

e. Toiletries / Personal needs and 1 small face towel

f. Rain coat / Poncho

g. Some amount of cash

h. Copy of Passport / Identification Card

i. Power Bar / Energy snacks

MEDICAL PREPARATION 

It is recommended that climbers should have themselves medically checked prior to attempting any mountain climb. DO NOT CLIMB if you are suffering from or have history of the following ailments:

 - Hypertension

 - Diabetes

 - Palpitation

 - Arthiritis 

 - Heart disease

 - Severe Anemia

 - Peptic Ulcers

 - Epileptic Fits

 - Obesity 

  - Chronic Asthma

 - Hepatitis (Jaundice) 

 - Any other sickness that can be triggered by severe cold, exertion and high altitude.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR CLIMBERS 

a. Return road transfers between Kota Kinabalu hotels/accomodation to Kinabalu Park are provided by Travel Rite Tours and is a shared basis with other climbers that day.

This is a door-to-door service with multiple pick ups so please expect some short waiting time. We shall contact you on and prior to the day of the tour should there be any change to pick up time to minimize waiting time. We will need your contact number which we will usually contact via Whatsapp or telephone call (for local number). 

The standard pick up time is 6.30am from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu Park. We highly suggest you spend a night at Kota Kinabalu before departure transfer to Kinabalu Park the next morning. Should climbers not be ready during pick up time, a private transfer from Kota Kinabalu (no later than 1400hrs) can be arranged at MYR 300 per vehicle. 

Surcharge applies for outskirt pickups and pickups from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. 

For your shared transfer from Kinabalu Park to Kota Kinabalu, after your climb ,you may have to wait for other climbers to descend the mountain before we bring you back to Kota Kinabalu. Our last shared transfer from Kinabalu Park to Kota Kinabalu departs at 1800hrs. Any climbers that are not ready to depart by 1800hrs , will need to pay a private transfer fee of MYR250 per pax for any late climbers. 

Should you prefer to not wait for any other climbers on the day of descend, you may arrange for a private transfer for MYR 300 per service. 

b. CHECK OUT TIME AT MOUNTAIN HUT

Check out time is at 1030hrs. A fee of MYR 50 per half hour for stays at Laban Rata Resthouse, will be levied for late check outs and is to be paid directly to the Resthouse / Hut.

c. MOUNTAIN GUIDE

 - Engaging a mountain guide is compulsory for every climber / group (Ratio of max 5 climbers to 1 guide)

The mountain guides are fully licensed through the Mountain Guide Association of Sabah and are compulsory for your climb. They are with you to keep you safe, ensure that you stay on the correct summit path and should visibility reduce due to rain or fog, ensure that you do not become lost or disorientated. Also should you need assistance or evacuation they will summon it for you.

d. CLIMBING CONDITION

The government authority of Sabah Parks will assess the weather conditions for your summit ascent in the early hours whilst you are at the rest house. Should they deem the summit to be unsafe due to strong wind, rain or storms they will not permit climbers to attempt the summit ascent. Should this be the situation there will be no refund in part or full for your climb.

e. CUT OFF TIME AT CHECKPOINT (ASCEND TO SUMMIT)

On the morning of the summit climb, according to Sabah Park’s regulation, climbers must reach Sayat – Sayat Checkpoint latest by 5AM, failing which climbers are not allowed to proceed to the summit.

f. CUT OFF TIME AT TIMPOHON GATE (DESCEND)

On your final descend, as per the Mountain Guide Associations regulation, climbers must reach Timpohon Gate (the starting/ending point) by 4pm. Failure to meet this cut off time will result in a late climbers fee of MYR 15.00 per hour in cash to be paid directly to your mountain guide.

 - Palpitation or have any breathing difficulty 

 - Sprained muscles and cramps

 - Vertigo, dizziness or nausea

 - Headache or migraine (it could be AMS, Acute Mountain Sickness)
